Purpose/Mission: The Certification Committee assists HR professionals obtain and/or retain the desired HR certification through study preparation groups, opportunities for recertification credits, and programs of scholarships and sponsorships. At this time, a study preparation group for the PHR® and SPHR® certifications is held each spring and fall prior to the designated exam testing windows.

Our Study Group provides the body of knowledge required to take the PHR®/SPHR® Exams. For more information on the PHR® or SPHR® exam registration, requirements, deadlines and fees, please visit the HR Certification Institute®: https://www.hrci.org

Registration for the Fall 2019 Study Group begins on August 20, 2019 through noon on September 5, 2019. Study group participation is limited with priority to current qualified CRHRA members whointend to sit for exams in the upcoming testing window. Non-members (including non-active members) may register through the link and will be placed on a waiting list. Study group size islimited to 15 participants.

Study Group Cost: $295 for CRHRA members ($325 for non-members). Course materials and instruction are included in the cost of the study group.

Objective: To award up to $250 per spring and fall SPHR/PHR study group to one study group participant, to help offset costs associated with the study group, study materials, and the cost of the test.

Fall Study Group -> September 30th; Spring Study Group -> February 24th

Scholarship Award: The scholarship award will generally be paid by check from CRHRA by April 30th (spring study group) or November 30th (fall study group). Payment is contingent upon meeting eligibility criteria at the time of payment.

Committe Chair - Jessica LaMoy

The purpose of the Communications Committee is to provide oversight and direction for all aspects of CRHRA communications and public relations, including social media, website and email content, and the monthly newsletter release.

Our mission is to develop and maintain continual, high quality communications across all mediums in order to create and promote awareness about CRHRA – this includes membership benefits, events and program offerings, and opportunities for involvement. The Committee promotes and manages CRHRA’s overall online presence, both internally through the website and externally through a variety of social media outlets. The committee ensures that website content is current, creates interest and promotes participation in conversation via social media, and generally provides HR content as a value-add for all members.

Our overall goals are:

1) for our chapter and our membership to be considered the place to come for human resource expertise in the HR Community within the Capital Region and 2) to promote the programs and value of CRHRA to drive more members to engage their membership participation. From a communications perspective, we want members to think of and utilize CRHRA every time they have an HR related question/idea/conversation topic. Our ultimate purpose is to advance the human resource profession!

Current Goals/Projects:

  • The Communications Committee is presently working on a number of projects, including:
    Create, promote, and grow CRHRA communications initiatives
  • Develop long term and short term communications plans for CRHRA 
  • Maximize the use of social media tools to reach and engage CRHRA members and the business community 
  • Grow the CRHRA Professional Network LinkedIn group and utilize this venue as a forum for HR related topics;
  • Create continued relationship building with media outlets and relevant business organizations to promote CRHRA within the HR Community and the Capital Region
  • Collaborate with other professional associations to promote CRHRA and foster mutually beneficial relationships and to expose members to other professional development and networking opportunities
  • Ensure timely release of the newsletter to CRHRA membership, including: planning content, requesting articles and information from board members or other contributing individuals, editing and writing articles, and reviewing and proofing the newsletter for release.
  • Create communications content to be used for various public relations purposes.

Committee Chair - Currently Open

Purpose/Mission - The Government Affairs Committee monitors legislative activity affecting the Human Resources Profession and coordinates legislative activities through lobbying, providing speakers, and organizing campaigns designed to initiate legislative input from CRHRA members.

Current Issues/Projects - Government Affairs Committee responsibilities include:

  • Check out the Wage Theft Prevention Act calculator
  • Communicating the status of federal and state legislative issues to CRHRA members through newsletter articles, the CRHRA web site, and activities at monthly membership meetings
  • Acting as legislative liaison to the SHRM NY State Council
  • Coordinating activities of SHRM's HR Voice by informing members of legislative activities and of specific strategies to communicate opinions to legislative decision makers
  • Coordinating various legislative activities through CRHRA such as lobbying, presenting testimony at legislative hearings, and providing educational opportunities in the legislative area either solely or in conjunction with other committees

Purpose/Mission - The Marketing Committee promotes CRHRA by increasing public awareness of its programs and services, through public relations and partnerships, and is responsible for securing sponsors for CRHRA events and programs.

Current Issues/Projects - The Marketing Committee is presently working on a number of projects, including:

  • Developing a comprehensive database of potential sponsors of CRHRA events and programs
  • Creating promotional materials to be used in soliciting sponsors
  • Drafting press releases for CRHRA monthly meetings and other CRHRA events
  • Identifying and developing strategies to partner with other business organizations

Purpose/Mission - Providing top-quality professional development opportunities for HR professionals that focus on contemporary thinking about HR fundamentals and emerging HR issues is a commitment CRHRA makes to its members.The Programs are aimed at offering a series of topics that anticipate and address the needs of human resources professionals in a constantly changing environment. The Programs Committee also relays local/regional volunteer possibilities for HR professionals in the business community. Additionally, the committee partners with other local professional organizations and educational institutions to expand the scope and variety of presentations, which will appeal to all audiences.

Purpose/Mission - The goal of the CRHRA Student Chapter is to provide an opportunity for Capital Region students exploring the field of Human Resources to network and interact with local Human Resources professionals.
