Investing in New Supervisors’ Success

According to HR Magazine’s Summer 2019 issue, Gallup’s most recent State of the Workplace survey revealed that 50% of workers who left their jobs voluntarily, placed the blame on their managers. The connection between employee engagement and the daily encounters they have with their managers is strong – working with a manager who is ill-prepared for their role can be demotivating and ultimately the reason why good talent chooses to leave.

HR and the organization’s leadership expend time, money and effort to select and promote an individual contributor based on their competency with the functional responsibilities of their job.  As we all know, however, the skill set required to oversee others with the same functional responsibilities is altogether different, requiring an investment in the newly promoted supervisor to ensure that they have the essential foundational competencies for a successful transition from “Self-Responsibility” to “Team Accountability.”

About our speakers:
With a combined 50 years of experience working with HR and OD teams, performance consultants Elaine Angelo and Kathy Ozimek, SHRM-SCP, of ProKnowledge, LLC. will discuss the key elements of a Supervisor Boot Camp that will meet the needs of newly or recently-promoted supervisors.  Joining them will be HR/OD professionals from Hudson Headwaters Health Network, LeverPoint Management, and New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) to discuss how they have used the Supervisor Boot Camp model to prepare their new supervisors for the challenges of managing in today’s ever-changing environment.
